Bottling And Kegging Can Be A Great Pass Time

By Jessica Phillips

Are you looking for the best way to store your home- brewed beer? There are two methods of storing beer that you can consider. The two options are bottling and kegging, and both have great benefits to it.

If you use bottles for storing your craft beer, commercial bottles are a lot more cost effect than bought bottles. One of the great benefits of glass bottles for beer is the fact that you are not able to twist or dent them easily. Bear in mind it does take a lot of effort when it comes to removing the old labels and having to clean them out. Brown bottles are great as the color itself blocks the UV light which can make your beers smell awful.

It is recommended to pour boiling hot water inside as soon as the bottle is empty. This will help to prevent anything from growing on the inside of the bottle. You will also need to sterilize the bottles properly before you use them. Most people prefer to just put them inside of their dishwasher as the heating cycle will kill off any microorganisms that may be growing on the inside of the bottles.

When it is time to put the beer inside the bottles, don't forget to add a little corn sugar to it. The sugar will give the yeast the right amount of food that it needs to carbonate the beer. You will need to first put the caps for the bottles in a pot on the stove and boil them a little. Once they have been boiled, you can place them tightly on the bottle so that it is sealed.

If you want to keg the beer rather, you need to realize that there are extra costs to consider. Always sterilize the inside of your keg properly before use. If you keg the craft beer, you will be happy to know you can control the level of carbonation yourself. You don't want too much as this will alter the taste of the beer.

You'll have to bear in mind that each keg is more or less 25"-27" high. A lot of people go out and buy a special refrigerator for the sole purpose of cooling down their beer. That is the reason this method can be a costly affair.

It is vital that you sterilize your keg properly before you use it. You don't want any bad microorganisms breeding inside your keg. Once you have sterilized your keg it is time to pour your homebrew into it. As soon as your beer has fermented, you can place it in your keg and pop the cap on. You will need to remove the oxygen from your beer by tugging on the relief valve.

Now you know that you have 2 options that need to be looked at if you want to brew craft beer. You can then sell and market your personal craft beer and bring in a profit. The amount you can sell it will depend on which option you select. Kegging and bottling are the best options that you need to research before you make your craft beer.
