So bearing this in mind, the other expense that is overlooked is time. It all depends how in depth the meal is to prepare and sometimes it is best suited to make simple meals in order to save time. Arguments should be the last thing on the chef's mind but they do break out even in the most closest of families when the meal is not to anyone's liking.

The way to overcome this is to use everybody's input. By involving everyone, especially the kids, the whole process of food making becomes exciting as they are taught what to buy and which ingredients go in each dish. In this way it is easily ascertained what everyone's favourite ingredients are and then cook accordingly.

To save time, some meals, say for two nights a week can be kept simple. Call them budget meals and instead of eating leftovers, cook just enough to feed the family. A typical example of this is baked potato with cheese on top. This can also be served with a small green salad with salad dressing.

The trick is preparing one meal that satisfies all. So when the kids are included in making a choice of ingredients to use the job is mostly done. Obviously it should be kept as healthy as possible and sweet things should be excluded as kids will usually tend to want something sweet.

It is all about time and as mentioned each child or person eating a meal should in some way have a participating part in the meal. This goes from preparing the meal, cooking it and most but not least, the washing up and cleaning. A well organised family has a roster on the fridge door where each member of the family can see what their duty is that particular evening.

This saves time when everyone has a part to play. Make it interesting and fun especially when small kids are involved. Starting off from an early age is vital so that kids can carry this through into the adult years.
