Traits Of The Authentic Greek Cuisine

Greece is a country known for its unique set of dishes. The main theme of dishes made in Greece is the unique and varied blend of colors in the dish as well as nutrients. Their diet is based on colorful and highly nutritious food products. The food consumed in Greece is generally termed as Mediterranean foods or the Authentic Greek Cuisine.

Greek is known as the first country in which olive farming on a large scale was started. This means that olive plants are an important plant culturally to the Greeks. The olives and their oils are thus a product often used in making their unique exquisite dishes. For example the oil is used to coat crusty breads while the fruit can be eaten whole as a dessert.

Greece is a country almost completely in between a sea. Their access to the sea thus means that some part of their diet consists of fish products. Some of their culinary dishes thus include fish. Some of the fish are rare types that make up for exquisite foods. Common types of fish used in making unique menus include anchovies, halibut, mullet, octopus, squid and prawns as a a few.

Another common food product in Greece is grains. They form a major part of the diet in the area. The grains are often used to make breads and various types of unique dishes. The grains are also used to come up with accompaniments to foods example stews or added to salads and soups. Another common grain in the country that forms a basic part of the diet is rice.

The warm climate of the area offers suitable environmental conditions to support the growth of various vegetables and seasoning as well as herbal plants. The diet in the area generally considers color and flavors thus the availability of conducive environment supports the growth of the diverse flavored ingredients.

Greeks mainly focus on plant produce rather than animal produce. However, they still enjoy meat cuisines although on special occasions. For milk products, they are stored and fermented into cheese as the environmental conditions of the area tends to promote spoiling of the milk when stored. The Greeks are thus not as interested with animal products in their foods as compared to plant produce.

As for desert and beverages, the Greeks are known for their exquisite tastes in wine. The wines are also used regularly in their dishes. Deserts on the other hand mainly comprise of fruits which are either eaten whole or dried before consumption. Honey is also use to add flavor to pastries and desserts to make them special desserts. Greeks thus have a very nutritious and healthy diets.

Cuisines in Greece are mainly based on creating meals that are highly nutritious, colorful and consists of natural ingredients. This is the reason as to why foods in Greece are considered as very healthy. The foods rarely use animal fats and animal products used is very minimal. The foods in Greece are thus an interesting combination of natural ingredients that are prepared well to create different delicacies.
