3 Pointers For Better Tomato Sauce

When it comes to Italian cooking, one of the most common ingredients to consider has to be tomato sauce. Everyone has their own way of making said sauce, it seems, and results will vary depending on the methods followed through. If you feel like your sauce can be improved, there is quite a bit of learning to be done. Once you make note of these 3 practices, and put them into effect, you'll start to see just how much stronger your sauce will be.

Prior to creating the sauce base, you have to be able to prepare your tomatoes ahead of time. What most chefs do is that they roast the tomatoes, which is done with an added level of care. The reason why roasting is carried out - and the chefs in question will attest to this - is that it helps to give the sauce a much stronger flavor than it probably would have had otherwise. To put it simply, if you're going to cook sauce, your tomatoes must be cooked beforehand.

Butter is another ingredient that you may add to your sauce. This is especially true for those who'd like to improve the sauce in question for the sake of richness and texture alike. Of course, you may look at butter and say to yourself, "If I add this, my sauce isn't going to be as healthy." All you have to know is that a small amount is all that's needed. Be careful of how much you bring into the pot and your product will be that much better.

Finally, if you're concerned about freshness being left out of the equation, think about incorporating a few greens. One of the best examples is basil, which is not only able to withstand high temperatures associated with cooking but liven up the flavor of your sauce as well. It's a little-known benefit, especially to those who may not be familiar with the culinary arts. For those who aren't afraid of adding a bit more character to their sauce, greens do the trick quite nicely.

Italian cooking has the potential to create some of the strongest dishes imaginable. However, a good number of these dishes cannot be made without a robust tomato sauce, which is fortunate when you consider that there are quite a few ways to make this a reality. Make sure that you practice and put these methods into effect in the long term. With continuous effort, you'll start to see just how much better your own tomato sauce will become.
