Can Extra Virgin Olive Oil Boost Fertility?

By Katie Onson

Extra virgin olive oil is a product that can bring a series of nutritional benefits to the table. With antioxidants being amongst the most prevalent, it's easy to see that this product is promising for those who would like to invest in it. Can this type of oil prove to be useful when it comes to more medicinal processes, though? If you want to talk about fertility, for example, a study that was conducted recently may draw attention to this matter.

As an article on Daily Mail outlined, extra virgin olive oil was utilized in the creation of a "fertility diet." Not only did this diet include this very oil, which is supported by companies like Unaprol, but the inclusion of an oil-based spread and a vitamin D-rich supplement drink helped to round it out. To say the least, this oil is a huge component of this regimen. Little did I know, until I read deeper into this study, that this could lead to stronger results later on.

The University of Southampton not only put this study together but said that, if it goes over well, fertility rates in couples could actually increase by up to 40 percent. I believe that this is especially important because of how much certain actions influence how fertile men and women are. For instance, someone who has taken anabolic steroids may very well have a lower rate than someone who never took them. To say the least, more positive actions should be looked into.

Along with the aforementioned diet, provided the study goes according to hypothesis, there are other ways in which fertility can be increased amongst couples. For example, exercise can be taken up more often, as weight gain seems to have a negative impact on birth, in addition to events related to it. In addition, reducing the amount of coffee and alcohol consumed can help matters. Switch to water, and stick with it, in order to keep fertility high.

No one can argue with the benefits that come from taking in extra virgin olive oil. After all, a product like this is one of the most helpful, from a dietary standpoint, and I am sure that others would be able to attest to this. However, I am sure that most would not have assumed the increase of fertility rates would have been present. It's important to keep this in mind so that the next time you go shopping, you'll understand the benefits of this product even further.
