How An Oasis Water Source Comes To Being

By Nancy Gardner

An oasis is an area in the desert which contains a water source. Because of this, it is possible to survive in the barren land. Because of this, trade routes are established in locations that pass through this. But other than being a location where you can get water, some oases are big and capable enough to become an ecosystem where plants and animals thrive.

Just like for example in the desert. This place is purely sand. Wherever you look at or wherever you reach, you will see nothing but sand, no rivers, no springs, no lakes, no sea, nor any kind of body of water. But make no mistake. Even without those, you can still obtain water in the desert and that is through the oasis water source.

An oasis is an environment in a desert where you can find vegetation, animals, plants, and water. And so the area becomes a habitat for living organisms. Trade and transportation in a desert usually go through this route in order to replenish supplies especially of water. Due to the scorching heat of the sun, water easily evaporates and thirst is felt.

He had no hope of finding a place where he could get water to drink and he became weaker and weaker. But nearly before all his hope was gone, he remembered that in a desert, one can obtain water if he digs deep enough. So the man mustered all the strength he had left and put it on believing that he can obtain water if he tried to dig.

Oases can actually be made either naturally or manmade. For manmade, the procedure is done through digging. If the digging is deep enough to reach the bed where water is present, then that would be the creation of a spring or a well. There are several water sources which are manmade and it has been preserved for centuries.

For the man made wells, generations of people have taken responsibility for their preservation and this is the reason why you can still benefit from them when you happen to come across the desert. Actually, these features have been of critical importance for trade as well as transportation routes. That is why political or military control has been the common engagements.

Examples of some deserts are Ghadames, Awjila, and Kufra which are situated in Libya today. Now, you might wonder how there could be plants in this area when the land here is sand and barren. Well this has something to do with the natural factors. Since water can be found in the place, animals also come visiting like birds, and other animals which carry along with them seeds.

But even if this is caused in a natural way, humans still need to manage the land in order to grow a better yield. Fields must be irrigated in order to grow plants such as olives, apricots, figs, and dates. But the most important plant to ever grow in this area is the palm date. This usually forms in the upper layer and shades smaller trees and plants forming in the middle layer.

That is why there is already the distillation process whereby filtering is done until the safest is produced. But the healthiest is water coming from nature because the nutrients are intact. However, if you are still not that sure, then boil it for safety purposes.
