Not that they did not produce these then, during the pre crafts beer days. But their products did not gain that much popularity unlike today.

The current craze for craft items in the yeast and wort beverage trade is quite the phenomenon, perhaps influenced by internet use. Sites and great social media stuff is where people take out much info, so intensive that they are able to learn from these fast, just by accessing one site. A lot, perhaps the most successful, have gone on and became successful just by staying steadfast in the belief that they would sooner or later come up with the perfect brew.
