Business Catering For Company Events And Meetings

By Dennis Cook

Companies hold so many different types of events - conferences, meetings, seminars, and customer appreciation functions are just a few of the more common gatherings. The groups of people who attend these all have one thing in common - they are hungry and they need to be fed, especially if the functions are more than a few hours long. Business catering is a booming business that is designed to provide meals and snacks to these individuals.

The foods required for morning events are usually very simple. Of course, coffee is the main requirement. A simple continental breakfast will consist of sweet rolls, juices, and maybe a seasonal fruit tray. A much more bountiful offering would be a breakfast buffet of scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon, some type of breakfast potato, and croissants and/or biscuits.

Snacks are usually provided in mid-morning and then again in the mid-afternoon. M. These snacks can consist of simple items such as coffee, hot and cold tea, cookies, brownies, and maybe even candy. Many caterers have become extremely creative with these breaks and have come up with new and innovative ideas.

Some of these may include a popcorn bar with many flavors of popcorn - white cheddar, sea salt, and caramel could be just a few of the selections offered. They could have a movie theme and set out boxed candy, buttered popcorn straight from a machine, and sodas. A coffee station may be set up complete with flavored coffees or coffees with flavored syrups. Chocolate may also be a theme that is used - all types of chocolate candies and snacks could be set up for attendees to enjoy during their breaks.

Buffet lunches are usually served for these types of groups. Some of these buffets may have unique themes to make them more enticing and interesting. The foods could be a Mexican buffet, deli buffet, fajita or taco bar, salad line, or even hot dogs and hamburgers with all the toppings. The desserts that are offered are usually of a very simple fare so attendees can bring them back into the seminar or meeting if they so desire. Cookies, bars, and brownies are the most common.

Working lunches are also very popular. They are usually boxed lunches and can consist of far more than just a casual sandwich and chips. Whole grain bread, alfalfa sprouts, croissants, submarine buns, and many other variations are used to make these simple lunches as unique and interesting as possible.

At the end of the working day, an open bar with appetizers and mini desserts may be offered to the attendees. This will allow them to network further and continue any business discussions they may have engaged in during the day. The bar could include wine, beer, mixed drinks, and sodas. The appetizers could be a simple array of meatballs, chicken wings, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, and mini brownies and cookies.

This particular type of catering can provide steady and consistent work to a proficient company. It is not as stressful as providing foods for weddings and is much simpler to serve. As companies grow larger and the need for communication and training within these companies grows, so will the demand for quality foods and service.
