Why Every Kitchen Should Have Fruit Cobbler Mix

For many, no meal is complete without dessert. Yet, for the person doing the cooking, this may seem like an extra step worthy of special occasions. The truth is that supper may be the best time to indulge in a sweet treat, rather than shortly before going to bed. Also, fruit cobbler mix can be used in a number of ways that are ideal for anyone wanting something quick or not loaded down with calories.

While cobblers are the hot and hearty pies that make some salivate, these have many variations that are not necessarily high in calories. These may be served with or without ice cream on the side and some people do not even miss things like caramel sauce. One advantage of making these at home is the ability to control portions so one does not have to feel so guilty.

Probably the most popular squash is the zucchini, also known as Italian squash. Like the carrot, there is a slightly sweet flavor that lends itself well to breakfast bread and some pastries. These also cook into a soft texture that is easy to disguise. Zucchini bread sold in most coffee shops is a good example of this.

This crumble is something that is being used often in other desserts, like cake and cinnamon crumb muffins. Easy donuts can be made by cutting raw premade biscuits and cooking in deep fryer until brown. Once drained, cover with glaze, followed by crumb mixture. Cobbler mixture can also add a little spice to savory side dishes like apple stuffing or honey cornbread.

If a person wanted to make a healthy, low sugar dessert, they can up the ante by adding a few extras to the cobbler mix. Sometimes ground cinnamon and vanilla extract bring out a natural sweetness in apples, carrots, and sweet potatoes. These can be added to the cooked ingredients before topping with cobbler mixture.

Even though most recipe directions call for melted butter, there are butter substitutes that have fewer calories and cholesterol. Canola oil is very low in saturated fat and one of the least expensive oils that does not have a lot of saturated far. However, some choose to bake with coconut oil, as it has a mild, sweet flavor.

Once the dessert has cooked and cooled enough to eat, choosing a lowfat companion should be easy. For those who love vanilla ice cream, an Italian gelato has fewer calories and cholesterol per serving. Greek yogurt can also be frozen until hard and served alongside a warm cobbler. Dairy free whipped topping is also a good option.

Some people like to eat crumble as a snack. One can up the healthy factor by mixing in some roasted nuts or dried fruit and carrying it with them any time they have a sweet craving. In some ways, this is safer than eating a sugar laden candy bar or getting a slice of cake from a coffee shop. Not to mention, having a snack that was made at home also saves money.
