Plant Based Vegan Products Can Be Good Sources Of Protein

By Susan Ellis

These days, more health experts are recommending that people get more protein in their diets. Not only for nutritional benefits but it has also been found to be essential to steady weight loss. However, many have been brought up to believe that protein is one of two things, gritty and only found in animal products. Those who have not tried plant based vegan products may be in for a pleasant surprise.

Starting with the insides, consuming plant proteins is not restricted to eating salads or gritty grain entrees. These days, many edibles are not only filling but have a taste and texture similar to their animal cousins. Vegan versions of burgers, chicken, and pork entrees that are made these days are converting many carnivores on taste alone.

There are also many nutritional properties to be found in the new vegan entrees. Seitan and tempeh can be found in many vegan and vegetarian meat products. Although not all recipes are made the same, the majority are low in saturated fat and contain generous amounts of iron and magnesium.

Cooking plant food is also ideal for those who are very busy or do not like to spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Although some items, like beyond burger patties, taste better when cooked over a fire, the time is significantly less. Vegan versions of ham, beef, and poultry do not have animal parts to cook down so just making sure it has brown edges will normally make it edible.

For edibles, quality may be compromised by using cheap fillers like corn flour or animal proteins that act as a binder. Cosmetic products that may have an image of a plant on the label may still contain parabens and other ingredients linked to certain illnesses. While there are some major brands that act ethically, it helps to be informed before shelling out any money.

In the past, protein powder was used for athletes or those who did regular workouts but premade drinks could be a problem for anyone who did not fall into either category. One reason was these were loaded with sugar to make the texture palatable. The other was that many contained dairy products in powder form. However, new protein drinks are not only low in sugar but come in a number of flavors.

There are many formulas that are designed for weight loss as well as those who need an additional boost without relying on caffeine products. This is great news for those who are giving up animal consumption because many find that if they were to only eat vegetables, their energy levels would be the first thing to take a hit. While not all drinks are intended to be a meal substitute, they do have more nutritional value than before.

The best way to find the right product is to read reviews on vegan food blogs or merchants that specialize plant products. It is best to stick with brands whose image is consistent with the consumer. In other words, if a popular brand starts to offer a vegetarian version of anything, once again, read the label before buying.
