How To Store Wine-Basic Tips

By Holly Peters

Wine enthusiasts care for their wine so much. They do not just enjoy drinking wine, they also make sure that their wines are kept safe. If you are just starting with your love for wine, it is important to remember that wine must be stored in the ideal conditions for it to develop into its full potential. Learn the basics of proper wine storage by reading through this article.

The most important element to consider when storing wine is the right temperature. The temperature inside your custom wine cellar should constantly be cool. A warm temperature can hasten the aging process of wine and consequently ruin its quality. The ideal cool for wine to age well is around 55 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature should also have minimal to no fluctuations, because constant fluctuations in the levels can damage your wines.

Another factor that is important in wine storage is the lighting inside your custom wine cellar. Consider this carefully, because light brings warmth, which can easily be detrimental to the quality of wines.

There is a reason wine bottles are generally made of dark tinted glass-wines need to be shielded from the light. Make sure that your wines are away from sunlight. In the wine storage room, do not use lighting fixtures that give too much warmth. As much as possible go for LED lights. Have dim switches built as well, so that you can adjust the brightness inside the wine cellar accordingly.

The next basic thing to consider is the humidity inside your wine cellar room. Ideally, wine needs to be stored in a humidity level within 55% to 65%. If the level is below this range, corks dry out and shrink, causing air to enter the bottle and ruin the wine. A level beyond this range is not good for wine storage either.
