Add Spice To Gatherings With Mexican Food Catering

By Frances Morris

Most people associate catered meals with boring food unless the event is being catered by an upscale operation or restaurant with a strong following. However, this is not always the case, as some food service establishments take pride in their product. Those who have chosen a Mexican food catering company are often impressed by the wide selection.

Contrary to popular rumor, there is a lot more to traditional Mexican cuisine than heat. There are many dishes that range from mild and savory that use epazote to the sweet, smoky chipotle flavor. Another thing that a lot of people do not know is that there are several types of mole recipes, and these do not contain chocolate but are mostly peppers.

Mexican food is so varied that there is something for every type of appetite. A lot of people are familiar with hearty dishes that have meat, cheese, beans or potatoes. However, other famous dishes, like pozole, can be made a variety of ways without losing its slightly spicy flavor.

More people are finding that this type of cuisine lends itself best to a healthy makeover when the right spices are included. For instance, anyone can make a rich adobo sauce that is healthy by adding more crushed tomatoes instead of flour. While many traditional dishes may have been cooked in manteca, also known as beef fat or lard, olive oils infused with dried chili peppers of garlic make a nice substitution.

For large gatherings, it may be best to hire a caterer since this type of cooking tends to require many steps in preparation. When cooking for a lot of people, cooking from scratch makes a lot of sense. It is normally healthier than using helpers like preformed taco shells or sauces that are loaded with preservatives.

Although some modern recipes may call for the use of a microwave or ingredients that have been cooked previously, nothing compares to homemade. Many chefs opt for fresh ingredients that have a bright aroma and can be used for garnish. Instead of buying pepper jack cheese that has already been shredded and coated with a flavorless powder that prevents sticking, they would rather do it themselves. This way, guests can taste a little bit of heat with every bite.

As the merging of cultures is becoming more common, chefs and home cooks are finding ways to make dishes appeal to different groups of people. Recipes that once called for shredded beef or pork are now being replaced by jackfruit, a fruit that is growing in popularity as a meat alternative. Instead of using beef or pork fat, virgin olive oil is being used more often for frying and sauteing.

Besides flan and churros, there are many wonderful desserts that range from simple to decadent. Mexican hot chocolate combines a blend of vanilla and spices that give it a slight kick. Tres leche cake, which can be made using fresh fruit, is another dish that takes a few steps but is truly worth it.

In short, it helps to use a catering company that knows what they are doing and not just merely adding spices to generic dishes. Although some have found ways to add excitement to classics like meatloaf, there is nothing like original recipes. Even if there is an operation that can make it healthier without sacrificing the taste.
