Dim sum foods are almost akin to the Western finger foods or even starter foods, but they can be so much more. In fact they are a meal on their own and they can also stand as such. Technically they are considered as some sort of heavy snack that can be had anytime of the day and is usually not served with rice or with main meals. They do however, can complement any dish that they are served with.

These restaurant should have the most common and most well known representatives of such food.

One of the staples you will look for on the menu will be siew mai, or siomai. These are wonton wraps with meat, vegetables or even seafood inside and steamed to high temperature until cooked. If well cooked, the wonton itself will basically just melt in your mouth, literally. It is best eaten with some shrimp or chili sauce and soy sauce with a bit of lemon dash if available.

Another common fare for this kind of food is the dumpling or the colloquial siopao or siew pao, which is most commonly seen in the movies like Kung Fu Panda for example. It is a steam dumpling that is cooked with a meat filling usually. If it is filled with vegetables it is not usually fully enclosed and looks more like a sandwich.
