Paleo Dishes - They Are Not Difficult To Prepare

By Maria Renouf

Because it is easy to make delicious Paleo dishes - they are not difficult to make at home. Human genetics have not changed very much since we were hunters and gatherers. Those who follow this diet believe that a diet similar to what we had then should still be ideal for us now.

Those who follow these guidelines report having greater energy and less health worries. Many are losing weight by eating the foods recommended while others believe this is a more natural way to live. People of the Palaeolithic era would have eaten mostly fish and meat supplemented with eggs, vegetables, fruit, nuts, seeds and even insects if food was in short supply.

Foodstuffs such as meat and fish would have supplied plenty of protein. What would have been missing in the diet of our ancestors were dairy products and grains. There were no animals tame enough to milk and wild grains would have been considered food only if nothing else was available. Dairy and grain products are not recommended in the Paleo regime.

Organic products are, of course, best. Cooking should be done with olive or coconut oil or animal fats. Drink water rather than sugary drinks. Range- or grass-fed meat is best. These animals probably haven't been subjected to a range of antibiotics. Animals which have been fattened on grain have much less of the healthy Omega 3 fatty acids than grass-fed animals.

As regards recipes, breakfast can consist of anything with eggs. By replacing white or processed flours with almond and/or coconut flour, a variety of muffins, pancakes and crepes can be made. Frittatas and most soups are acceptable. If you like creamed soups, substitute cream with coconut cream or milk.

Potatoes are not recommended but can be switched for sweet potato. All other vegetables are allowed although legumes are not recommended. The peanut is a legume so should be avoided too. If you are trying to lose weight, limit the amount of nuts in baked goods and salads. In fact, most baked goods should be regarded as a treat to be eaten occasionally. Most seafood, poultry, pork, lamb and beef recipes need little alteration.

For sweets, coconut ice cream is available. Fruit dishes are acceptable. Tasty alternatives to most of your favorite baked goods can be made using almond or coconut flour. You will only need to make a few changes to your cooking style. Because it is easy to adapt tasty Paleo dishes - they are not difficult to make at home. And you will be rewarded with a healthier body.
