How To Make A Really Delicious Baklava

Making this one is a bit time consuming. Baklava is a sweet pastry made from layers of phyllo dough filled with chopped nuts and is sweetened by syrup or honey. It is really popular for Middle Eastern countries. This recipe is not for first time bakers. But, if you will just follow the steps written below then it could be easier for you.

One would be needing a packet or 375g phyllo dough, about 180g melted and cooled butter, and 2tsp of water. For the filling, one would need about 150g of walnuts, 150g pistachios that are unsalted, 55g or one fourth cup of caster sugar, and 1tsp ground cinnamon. For its honey syrup, you should have 375g jar honey, 165g or three fourth cup of sugar, 250ml water and one lemon with rind grated finely and juiced.

First, preheat the oven to 180 degrees C. You should start in making the filling. First, you have to spread the walnuts on the baking tray. Then, lightly toast that in the oven for five to eight minutes or until you can already smell its aroma. After that, you have to cool it down. Next, combine the walnuts, pistachios, sugar and cinnamon in the bowl. Place that in a food processor. Process it until it is finely chopped by pressing the pulse button of the processor.

Remove phyllo dough from the packet afterward. Lie flat on a table. Cover that with dry tea towel and a tea towel which is damp. You should be doing that because it would help to keep your dough from being dry while you would make it.

Next, prepare a 18 by 28cm shallow cake tin. Brush its insides with some butter. Take one third of the phyllo. Brush the top sheet with butter and fold into thirds so you could make a rectangle that is the size of the tin. Place it on the tin then brush its surface with butter.

Continue with the process of layering with the remaining one third dough. Get the nuts you have crushed for filling then spread half on the filo for covering. Then, layer half of those sheets like what you did previously. Spread the nuts left then top the remaining sheets on it. Brush the remaining butter on its top layer.

Get a sharp knife and cut diamond patterns on the topmost layer. Sprinkle it with water after that. Bake for about 30 minutes. Cover with foil then cook it for 45 minutes longer.

While waiting for that, you should be making its honey syrup. Combine the honey, sugar, water and the lemon rind and juice on a saucepan. Stir it over heat until the sugar is dissolved. Bring that to a boil on medium heat for about 10 minutes. Remove from the heat and cool that down. Remove ones cooked in the oven then pour its syrup. Spread evenly and cool that down.

It is best served with coffee. You can also add whipped cream to it. There are a lot of people who got addicted to this delicious dessert. You should try making one to serve to your guests.
