Things You Need To Know About Halal MRE

By Martha Perry

The world is becoming smaller and smaller at a steady pace, and this means that ideas and even religions are shared and distributed at a faster pace. In the case of Islam and halal food this is very much true. In fact you may have seen a soldier buddy of yours eating a Halal MRE pack some time back and are wondering what this kind of food is all about.

Halal when applied to food means that it is any food or victuals that are prepared in a prescribed clerical fashion under the tenets of the Muslim faith. It is more than just slapping on a label and selling any food, for many familiar with this kind of food will know if it is the real deal or not. Halal food is required to show on its ingredient packets most of the time the source, preparation methods and overall processing procedure.

And true to the tenets and prescription of the Islamic faith, this kind of prepared food will not have any pork derivatives or anything related to pork. It will not have any ingredients that may hint of blood or alcohol, and it will also have no MSG or animal based gelatins. In general, it will always include selected herbs and spices, fruits and vegetables, and dairy products alongside allowed cereals and grains.

Many Western fast foods are also hopping on the halal bandwagon as well. This is because due to its rising popularity then it becomes quite lucrative and popular also. Despite this, it must be known that this kind of food will also be more expensive due to its special preparation process.

Other consumer items have been covered under this preparation method as well, which includes clothing and cosmetics. Commercial ventures such as tourism and hotels have been influenced by the movement as well, with hotels offering separate facilities for men and women and also not serving alcoholic drinks or items.

The US military has not been immune to this global movement either., especially in the way that it is now preparing Meal Ready to Eat packs. It is expected that in the end what you will be getting is something a lot more healthier but a lot more expensive as well due to the aforementioned stricter preparation procedures.

The MRE preparations done under these guidelines are healthier, many will argue. This is because in general they will not have MSG, asparteme, sucralose and other sugars, and trans fats. The consumption of these kinds of MRE in theory will make a soldier less susceptible to fatigue and less jumpier also on the battlefield.

Determining whether this kind of product is for you or not really boils down to how much more you are willing to spend. The standard MRE will cost much less, about thirty percent much cheaper than this kind of MRE, but remember it will also be a lot less healthier.
