Disasters, either man-made or natural, can happen anytime and anywhere. Being stuck in the car, being caught in a blizzard, nuclear attack, biological warfare, heavy floods, earthquakes and hurricanes are just some of the disasters that may happen at the most unexpected time. Being prepared and ready for this kinds of calamities is important to be sure to survive. Disaster preparedness includes storing emergency and survival foods not only at home but as well as at the place that you and your family members usually and often go to like school and office. Different kinds of survival foods are available and are recommended to be stored and be consumed in the future if ever disaster and calamities may strike. Here are some of the most recommended survival foods:

-Brown rice- compared to white rice, brown rice do not increase your blood pressure too much and offers a little more nutrition.

-Freeze-dried survival foods- these types of foods are available in most groceries and they can be stored for longer periods of time compared to normal foods in the groceries.

-Canned goods are also considered as good survival foods because there is no to little preparation needed in order for your to consume this food. Aside from that, they can also be easily stored.

-Seasoning-this provides extra tastes to your food.

-When disasters or calamities happen, there usually is lack of food supply especially for meat and seafood products making it difficult to find foods that can supply the body with the protein it needs. Beans are high in protein and are normally recommended to be consumed in the absence of other foods rich in protein.

Things to remember when storing emergency survival foods:

-Always check the labels. Check the expiration date of the product that you are planning to store. You don't want to provide yourself and your family foods that are already expired when emergencies happen. Choose those foods that can be stored for longer periods before they expire.

-Choose to store foods that you enjoy eating or that you and your family are already eating. This way you are sure that your family will eat the survival foods stored when any untoward incidents happen.

-Water is very important to the body that is why it should not be forgotten among the list of survival foods to be stored.

-Be sure to store your survival foods in an area free from rodents and any other insects. Storing your survival foods in a metal container is highly-recommended so it can be protected from rodents and insects.

-Energy-giving foods are highly-recommended to be included in your emergency and survival food storage to ensure that you will be able to do activities that require strength especially during emergency situations.

-Also keep in mind to store not only foods but as well as things that are important and are much needed during emergency situations like emergency light and batteries, first aid kit and medicines, matches and candles.

Being ready is one vital factor in disaster preparedness. It will give you some peace of mind knowing that your family has food survival supply needed when the need arises or when any untoward disasters hit or happens on your area. It is good to remember that you need to depend on yourself and your family first before depending your needs to the government and other people during this time.
