By Rena Hudson

There are certain winemaking supplies homebrewers will need to use in order to create a quality bottle of wine. There are several people that enjoy making their own wine. Homebrewing can be a complicated process but it is easy to learn. Some take classes or buy instructional books on how to make different wines. There are also a number of online classes that are available. It is a fun hobby that even has a number of clubs. There are also people that own their own homebrewing business.

Before venturing to make wine, it is important for wine makers to have the right tools and equipment. Basic equipment includes an airlock, siphon, thermometer, hydrometer and carboys. All equipment and tools will need to be sterilized before making the wine. This is an important step that removes bacteria and other harmful contaminants from entering the wine.

You can buy home brewing kits which will have all the necessary tools. These kits also come with instructions that show new wine makers exactly how to sterilize the tools. There are a variety of different types of containers that can be used to brew the wine. The primary fermentation needs a large sized plastic bucket. The most common carboy have a long narrow neck for the fermentation process.

This type of container is used to ferment the wine. An airlock gasket is used to prevent the wine from oxidizing. The narrow neck of this type of container can be stopped using the airlock. They also prevent dust from getting into the wine. It is often advised to use a glass carboy because they will not encourage bacteria growth along the sides of the container. The wine is later bottled after it has been made.

The wine can be bottled and corked after it has fermented. The corks are necessary to properly store the bottled wine. The corks can be found at a homebrewing store or online. Homebrewers are also going to need to use a number of siphoning tubes and a funnel. These items remove the wine from the container into thee bottles. Automatic siphons make this a much faster process.

Labels are needed to add a personal touch to the wine bottles. Several homebrewers make their own labels. There are labels that can be printed from the Internet. It is also possible to buy predesigned labels. There are a number of creative ways to make wine labels.

A wine thermometer is needed in order to determine the temperature of the wine. To ensure proper fermentation of the wine, it has to be at the right temperature. Ambient temperatures are necessary for wine yeast to thrive. Ambient temperature ranges from 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit. If theses temperatures are not reached, then the yeast will not grow correctly, negatively affecting wine fermentation.

Other important winemaking supplies are hydrometers. This is a tool that no homebrewer should be without. The hydrometer is used to measure alcohol content. It is the level of alcohol that will make the brew an actual wine. Hydrometers also determine the density of the wine which will determine the quality of the wine. Making your own wine is a fun way to learn and enjoy different wines but the right equipment is necessary.
