The Perfect Seasoning For Bloody Mary

By Miranda Sweeney

Everyone knows about Bloody Mary. This widely popular cocktail made of vodka and tomato juice is simple and complex at the same time. You can add so many different spices in there, and some are more common than others. For example, you can usually find Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice and pepper in there, with some salt and celery, but some use more complex seasoning for Bloody Mary.

The most popular type is made with three parts of vodka, one part of lemon juice and six parts of your favorite tomato juice, with the addition of a dash of Worcestershire sauce, pepper, salt and Tabasco. It is served in a long glass, filled with ice cubes and garnished with celery stalk, sometimes even with lemon wedge. It is tasty, refreshing and really interesting drink.

This simple but complex cocktail has really great reputation as a cure for hangovers. Well, vodka won't contribute much, but other components might help, thanks to anti-oxidants and electrolytes, and liquid, of course. It is not known who invented this drink, but its popularity is undeniable. At first, it was vodka and tomato juice only, and today more interesting versions are widely popular.

You will also find that in some areas it is quite normal to add a little bit of beef consomme in there, but it isn't widely popular as some other additions. For example, some people prefer adding cayenne pepper instead of black one. Olives and salt are often added, as well as celery salt and piri piri sauce. Most people still prefer restaurant style Bloody Mary.

For preparing one perfect Bloody Mary at home you will have to have all fresh and good quality ingredients. The problem is only to use the right amount of each of these components. It is funny to experiment, but if you want to make things easier and to make sure your cocktail will be absolutely perfect, you can buy one of prefabricated mixtures. This way you just cannot do anything wrong. Aromatic salts are also available.

So, if you prefer authentic restaurant style, use so called classic mixture. You just have to mix tomato juice, vodka and prescribed amount of seasoning in a glass, garnish it with celery stalk, and your job is done. In this specific mixture you will find Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, red pepper, black pepper, salt, garlic and horseradish. Of course, you can find different mixtures, for example with more intensive taste.

Another good thing to have in your fridge are different rimming salts. Smoked sea salt, celery salt or some other tasty combinations are just great for adding in your Bloody Mary, or in your food. Rich taste and wonderful aroma will make a great difference. Buy small packages to start with, and a large one when you decide about your favorites.

Most mixtures are available in small packages or larger bottles. You can store them in your fridge for a long time. If you buy a small bag, once you open it, just put the content in a small bottle, for easier storage. All you need to do now is to buy your favorite vodka brand, a few bottles of good tomato juice and some celery stalks.
