Keep These Tips In Mind When Choosing A Wine

By Belinda Norbert

When it comes to purchasing wine, things can get pretty tough if you don't know what you're doing. With such a vast selection of types, and prices, it can be difficult finding the right wine for you. Luckily, the following article can help serve as a starting point when trying to make your next wine selection.

Never cook with a wine that you do not enjoy the flavor of. When wine cooks down during the cooking process, it concentrates. Any flavors that you do not like will be more prevalent, which means you will not like the taste of the food you have worked so hard to prepare.

When buying wine, do not make the mistake of believing a wine has to be expensive to be tasty. There are many wines out there that taste great and are reasonably priced. If you are not sure you like a particular variety of wine, it is a good idea to try an inexpensive bottle.

One of the fastest ways that you can chill a bottle of wine is to place it into a container that is filled with water and ice. Gently lower the bottle into this container and you will be able to chill it to drinking standards within 30 minutes or so.

For the best flavor, be sure to serve wine at the proper temperature. Red wines, for example are the best when you serve them near 65 degrees. If the wine is poured at 58 degrees, it will warm to the right temperature in the glass. If you are serving a white wine, chill it to 47 degrees. They don't taste good if they are too warm.

Various factors determine the proper temperature for white wines. Different types of white wines have unique textures and weights, making each one different with regards to ideal serving temperature. Sauvignon blanc generally tastes best chilled, but others, like chardonnay, are more flavorful when they are closer to room temperature.

Not all wines age well, so make sure to take this into account when storing your wine. Understand the wine you have purchased before making this determination. Bordeaux, for example, ages very well.

As was mentioned in the beginning of this article, selecting a nice bottle of wine can be daunting if you are new to the wold of wine. Make sure to implement the information you've just read before your next trip to the grocery store so that you make the best decision possible. And always remember to drink responsibly!
