By healthy looking, we mean those free of bruises. There are fresh ones which has labels, indicating that they are safe and approved by the right food authorities. You may opt to go for this.

Then, also take note of the days when you want it stored. You can buy in advance and then store it for some time before cooking it up. Just place it somewhere that is dry and cool. High temperature can potentially damage the quality. To avoid any over storage, it is recommended to buy few days before you need it.

Generally, there are three modes by which you can cook this. One is through baking, two is by boiling and the last one is by microwave. All of these methods work given that you do the process right. Here is a short guide.

For the baking process, it is a requirement that you heat the oven first to three hundres seventy five degrees fahrenheit. After this, you can cut the pumpkin to half. Get a dish and place them facedown. After this, you may go ahead and put them inside the oven. Wait for an hour and half to ensure that they are tender enough. Allow them to cool and then scoop the flesh.

If you boil it, begin by cutting it half and removing the stringy parts inside. Peel it then cut to chunks. Place these chunks in a saucepan and pour some water. Begin the boiling process until the chunks become tender. Once it has cooled, mash it using a potato masher.

Same goes for microwave method. You cut it into half and remove the insides. Then, under high power, microwave it for about seven minutes. Adjust the position of the halves to cook it evenly. Allow it to cool down. After that, mash it. The good thing about this is you can place it on the fridge for 3 days or in the freezer for 6 months if you plan on using it later.

The available recipes for pumpkins are varied. The decision is yours. If you want to cook something more complicated, you can always ask a family or a friend to help you out. Cooking is also a good bonding time.
