All About Kosher MRE Meals

By Alyce Powell

There has been much pondering as to what MRE stands for. Kosher MRE are essentially prepacked ready to eat meals. They are utilized by many both in governmental departments as well as for private users such as those who prefer kosher foods when hiking or mountain biking to mention two.

Kosher is simply a method in the way animals are slaughtered or how food is processes. This method of slaughtering animals has been around for thousands of years and food that has gone through the kashrut process is eaten predominantly by people of Jewish denomination. There is a certain way that meals are prepared under the auspices of the Beth Din or rabbinical court.

A mashgiach is a designated Jewish individual that oversees the production. His or her job is to ensure that all the facets of the Law are obeyed when foodstuff is prepared. The basis of these laws is quite simple in their implementation and great care is taken that meat and milk products are not mixed and do not come into contact with each other.

This means that when food is prepared such as meat packaged products, they are prepared separately from milk products and more practically speaking when foods that contain meat or milk are prepared that the other is not prepared at the same time. This also means that separate cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils are used explicitly for meat when preparing meat and vice versa. These are instructions that are given by the Jewish Rabbinical court or as it is more commonly referred to as the Beth Din.

These laws of separation are also abided by in the Jewish home where meat and milk utensils are stored separately and washed separately. Different counter tops are used in the preparation of foodstuffs in accordance with this particular law. This Law in the Jewish Religion is known as a Chok and is pronounced using a guttural sound which emanates from the back of the throat.

The law stems from a biblical passage which says that you are not allowed to cook a calf in the milk of the mother. This has been said to teach the individual compassion and thereby shows respect to the animal kingdom too. These foods are noticeable by a stamp that they carry and are certified as such by many health departments.

This is a law that makes a Jewish home a kosher one. Kosher is another Hebrew word for kashrut where the latter is a conglomerative word for this type of production of food. Over Passover these laws are upheld although the production takes on a new dimension whereby any yeast containing foods are left out of the cooking process.

It is law that must just be kept and is known as a Chok in the Jewish religion. It is one that is not questioned although much has been expounded on this subject. One such philosophy is that it teaches the human being to have compassion and this is noticeable in the way animals are slaughtered in a gentle manner whilst not bringing any trauma to the animal.

Apart from this when animals are slaughtered the blood is drained from the carcass. This is because it is believed that the soul of the animal is contained in its blood. Here again this shows respect to the animal.

Kosher MRE is USA based. They have served government and public departments for years. It is well worth while to make use of their products next time you decide to take time out for a hike in the mountains.
