Few Tips In Creating Southern Food Meals

Food coming from the southern area of the country were traditionally cooked fried and have chicken as the most commonly chosen meat. Black Americans developed these from meals made centuries ago during the time of slave trade. Because learning to write and read were illegal for slaves then their recipes were not written until emancipation but passed down orally.

People associate their meals usually as being unhealthy and greasy but this has recently been changed with the adaptation of new cooking techniques. Lighten the food up by using less oil or healthier alternatives like olive, canola or peanut oil instead of the hydrogenated fats. Add not fat but flavor by mixing garlic powder as well as cayenne pepper to your breading.

To create a stew instantly, pair okra and tomatoes and roasting sweet potatoes will bring out its natural sweetness while adding vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon enhances the flavor. Saute greens with garlic and olive oil or slowly cook them in chicken or in vegetable broth for additional savory element. Red pepper flakes or hot peppers gives more taste when added.

Fruits are a great choice for dessert always though southerners do not usually eat them plain but are incorporated into cobblers and pies with blackberries and peaches as popular choices. When making them, use vegetable oil and reduce sugar by mixing lemon juice and flour. You can eat them with vanilla yogurt, grilled with honey or toasted silvered almonds.

If you prefer not to eat animals then substituting their meat is possible with tofu which is the most common substitute. But there are other alternative products like veggie burgers and tempeh that has more flavor than tofu. Among the favorites are beans and legumes which are usable on recipes imitating meat based food.

Nondairy milk and butter versions are available for your vegan meal and the former is perfect for creamy recipes. The milk is from cashew, hemp, almond, soy and coconut which are dairy cream alternatives. When butter is needed, use nondairy versions or coconut oi.
