Emergency, disaster and calamity can happen in a blink of an eye. That's the reason why early planning and disaster preparedness is very significant in order to survive. Not all people know how to start planning and getting prepared for emergencies, disasters and calamities, but all of us should know that we need to start with the basics for disaster preparedness. The first thing to do to make sure that you and your family are ready for survival when untoward accidents happen is having an emergency food storage. Now let's see what factors to consider when planning your survival food storage.

-Well-balanced, easy to store and easy to prepare foods are among the recommended foods to be included in an emergency food storage therefore you have to make sure that you will include these types of food when making a list for the survival foods that you will store. Aside from that, be sure to include foods that are rich in proteins, quality fats, carbohydrates and vitamins and minerals since these kind of foods can help to provide proper nutrients needed by your body especially during emergency situations.

-A person's body needs water to survive therefore be sure to include water in your emergency survival food storage. Also, during emergency situations, finding a potable water supply may be difficult so you have to make sure that you will have water that you and your family can consume if ever a calamity or disaster may happen.

-A cool, dry place which is also free from rodents and other insects is a recommended place for you to store your emergency food storage. You can look for a place in your house that you can use for this purpose.

-Checking your emergency food stored from time to time is recommended. This way, you will be able to dispose those that are already expired and replace it with new ones. Checking your emergency food stored every 4-6 months is recommended.

Here are some of the foods that you should include in your food list for survival:

-Peanut butter-peanut butter is not only a good source of protein, calories, carbohydrates and fats, it is also a type of food that lasts long.

-Because of its long shelf life and it is also easy to prepare, canned goods are one of the most recommended foods to be stored and consumed during emergency situations. Aside from that , there are also canned goods that contain considerable amounts of nutrients that may help your body to sustain through disaster and calamity. You can choose among these types of canned goods to be included in your emergency food storage, sardines, pasta, canned meats, canned beans and tuna.

-Another kind of food recommended to be included in your list of survival food storage are rice and oatmeal. Aside from being a good source of carbohydrates an vitamins which are essential to the body, they are also easy to prepare and store.

-Dehydrated goods are not only inexpensive but they also have long shelf life making it a good type of food to be included in the list of emergency food storage. Noodles, Pasta and cereals are good example of dehydrated foods.

-Since water is very vital for survival, it should be included in the list of foods for your survival food storage.

During emergency like calamities and disasters, there is huge possibility that food and water supply will be insufficient. So in order for you to survive, one should be prepared and be ready at all times.
