Discover The Best Food In Staten Island

By Helene Norris

There are lots of eateries vying to offer the best food in Staten Island. The Royal Crown Bakery is famous for making huge sandwiches, with the chicken parmigiana hero being a favorite. They produce cakes and bagels also. Carol's Cafe is a popular with locals because the owner is also the cook. They serve classically American food such as cheeseburgers and they make their own desserts.

If you prefer Vietnamese cuisine, there is only one restaurant of this type on the island, called Pho Mac. It's situated in the Bullshead neighborhood. The atmosphere is fairly relaxed and they offer a take out service as well. They allow children in the restaurant and there is parking on the street. However, they do not have wheelchair access.

There are two DaNoi Restaurants in Staten Island, serving dishes from the Northern part of Italy. The prices are very reasonable with pasta dishes costing on $15 on average. They do have more expensive meals, costing up to twenty seven dollars. The main restaurant is hidden down a side street and has a pleasant, intimate atmosphere.

Shaffer's Tavern is probably number one for German food. They have an extensive range of sausage and beer. They offer specials as well as a soup of the day. It has a family feeling to it and has been owned by the same people for a long time. Their sandwiches cost around nine or ten dollars on average. Platters are slightly more expensive though.

There are several pizza restaurants in the borough. Joe & Pat's Pizzeria and Restaurant has been open since nineteen sixty. They are well known for making thin crust pizzas. They opened another restaurant in Manhattan recently. Denino's Pizzeria Tavern has been going since the early 1930s. Ownership of it has been handed down from generation to generation.

Bayou is the only Cajun-Creole restaurant in the borough, creating the old style of New Orleans. They offer live jazz twice a week and tarot card readings on Wednesdays. From Monday to Wednesday, they have a prefixed menu with a three course meal priced under $20. They have range of desserts as well, including banana chocolate pudding and banana caramel cheesecake.

The prices at Filipo's Italian Restaurant are higher than in most places. Their antipasti is priced at eleven dollars upwards and most of their pasta costs around $20 dollars. They also provide a catering service for those hosting events. Filipo's usually celebrate notable dates like Father's Day by doing something special. They have an eclectic wine selection as well, importing from around the globe.

Duffey's Tavern is an Irish themed eatery known for it's burgers. In fact, some say their burgers are among the best in New York. It's near the zoo, so it's convenient for visitors. They also serve a range of daily specials. Their menu is reasonably priced with appetizers priced from six to ten dollars. All of their hamburgers and sandwiches are served with pickle and potato chips. However, if you want fries then you will have to pay a little bit extra. Duffey's certainly offers some of the best food in Staten Island.
