How To Run To Improve Your Health And Fitness Levels

By Bob Steele

Jogging is a great form of exercise that many people enjoy which also helps boost their energy level and mood. Sticking with a jogging program week after week can become a challenge, though. To avoid slowing your progress way down, you also need to avoid getting injured. Stay healthy and motivated to jog with these tips.

It is extremely important for joggers and runners to pay special attention to their footwear. Your socks should be thick and made for athletic shoes. Jogging is very beneficial in many ways, but it also creates impact on the feet and ankles, and if you don't have good running shoes, you risk a variety of problems. Ideal running shoes will fit your feet well and are comfortable to wear, and will need to be replaced as soon as they start to wear out. Try out many brands and styles to find the best shoes for you. You increase the risk of spraining your ankle or knee if you run in shoes that don't fit your feet or that are breaking down. To take care of your feet, you have to pay attention to your shoes, which is the only real expense to running.

Ok, when you start jogging, be sure to just start with slowly and increase your pace at a comfortable rate. Avoid bouncing up and down too much, like you have springs in your legs, and make the length of your stride comfortable and not too long like you're stretching. Pay attention to your gait, and keep your shoulders relaxed but not leaning too far ahead or behind. While you can pick up a little speed after you're warmed up, it's usually better to jog at a slow to medium speed. You can jog at a comfortable pace that will elevate your heart rate, produce good benefits, and you can decrease the odds of incurring overuse types of injuries. You will see better results and feel better, too, if you keep the pace consistent rather than running faster when you initially begin your jog. When you are ready to end your jog, slow down gradually so your body can cool down.

Jogging benefits both your cardiovascular health and your bones health. Because jogging releases endorphins, it is an effective mood enhancer. Going jogging when you're feeling down is one of the best ways to feel better.

It really depends on how far you jog because it's not always necessary to drink water while you're jogging if it's really not that far - but hydrate before hand. Don't eat before running unless you want to throw up - simple as that. A little pure fruit juice is also good, but not anything with extra sweeteners, such as soda or energy drinks. Like food, if you drink too much water you can get cramps and vomit. As for drinking while you run, do it in small sips or pay the consequences - but who really wants to carry water while they run? Not me. Post jog hydration is a good idea, and you should only drink water - forget juice or vitamin water or all that other junk - pure water. The hotter and more humid it is, the more important it becomes to hydrate. There are several reasons to take up jogging. Not only will you lose weight but it will help with your overall fitness level. You will see it can even improve your mood. The key to getting the most out of jogging is consistency. Using the jogging tips just discussed will help you get started with this simple but powerful exercise.
