Things To Consider With Diy Beer Brewing

By Patricia Wallace

Drinking beers is extremely popular across the globe any many will enjoy a pint after work or at the weekends. Thousands of beers are now sold in bars and clubs and there are many different varieties to be tasted. Many drinkers will also decide to make their own ales and will start diy beer brewing as a hobby.

When you have decided to start brewing at home some thought should be given to which style of beer you want to make. Pale ales, heavy beers and stouts can all be made by the amateur brewers in the home. Others are also now available such as fruit flavored ciders and the cloudy wheat beers which have become popular in recent years.

After deciding on your style and strength of beer there are two ways that you can get your brew on the go. Brewing kits are a popular choice for beginners and are a fairly easy way of producing a batch of beer. More experienced brewers may choose to buy separate ingredients such as hops and malts to create a brew made to their own special recipe.

Before you start your beer making you will need some basic equipment and tools to get your first batch of ale going. A brewing vat or barrel will be needed to place all of the required ingredients in and start fermenting. Tubing, bottles, labels and cleaning tools to sterilize your equipment will also need to be purchased.

A good place to start when looking for equipment and kits is a home brew store in your neighborhood. These shops will have all of the items you need to get going and will be able to help you with your selections. The experienced staff in these stores will also be happy to offer any advice on equipment buying and beer making techniques.

Another good place to source supplies is one of the online brewing companies. As with the stores they will have a huge stock of items that you can use to create a brew. As well as stocking the ingredients and supplies they will also have recipes, additives and tutorial DVD's available for you to buy. Some of these web sites will also have discussion pages where you can exchange ideas and advice with other enthusiasts.

Another idea for brewers new to the hobby is to join one of the many clubs that are available. These organizations will have lectures and discussions about brewing and you may also benefit from discounts from suppliers by being a member of the club. Many of the clubs will hold annual beer festivals where different brews can be sampled and purchased. It can also be useful to interact with other brewers and exchange ideas and recipes.

A very important thing to think about is hygiene and safe practices. All of your brewing equipment and tools need to be sterilized before and after use as the slightest bacteria will damage your batch. If you are using bottles for your beer some care should be taken due to the very high pressure of the liquid while it is still fermenting.
